I quite liked my recent stay here, mostly for the general look&feel (somewhat classic, but "fresh") and the outstanding staff.

When I checked in, I was only upgraded to a "better view" room - actually the view wasn't particularly nice (same as in EE's pictures). The hotel seemed quite busy on that (and the following) day, so I don't take it as an indication of stinginess.

Halfway through my stay I asked the lounge staff (they have full reception functionality in the lounge) about the possibility of extending by one night. They immediately offered to keep the same rate as my original booking (cheaper than rack rate at that time), offered a 6pm late checkout when I mentioned a late flight, and said that (regardless of staying longer) they now have a suite available that they can upgrade me to. That was great attention to detail and I happily accepted; it was a proper suite with fully separate living room and dressing room.

Also, when I arrived, the concierge notied that one wheel from my suitcase was missing and immediately offered their assistance in getting this fixed by a local shop. When I showed interest, they got back to me with a quote within half an hour, then took care of all the logistics - picking up the suitcase from my room in the late afternoon, returning it fully fixed (at a reasonable price) the next morning. While I expect that most Concierge teams can help with such things, it was great that they actively offered this and made it as easy as possible for me.

I was less impressed with the F&B offerings, though. I'm generally not a big fan of table service in a lounge, particularly for the evening food/drinks offering. They were quite efficient at it, but it still adds a certain layer of complication and seems quite pointless compared to self-service, particularly as the staff were only grabbing the food items from a pre-set buffet anyway, so there wasn't even an implication of "made to order" food.

Also, being served at a table feels somewhat strange outside of their main service hours, when I might just want to hang out there for a bit and grab a quick coffee or soft drink. During the evening the lounge always featured several guests with calls or videos on speaker - while that isn't directly the hotel's fault, it further took away from my desire to spend more than a minimum amount of time in the lounge.

The biggest downside was, though, that almost none of the food items (which changed every day) were particularly good. And this even extends to breakfast in the restaurant (which is available as a welcome gift option). It has a much larger selection than the lounge breakfast, but I was fairly underwhelmed by the quality of most (cooked) food.

Overall I would certainly stay here in the future, but more likely in a scenario where I don't expect to use the lounge / onsite F&B much.
