An interline agreement is table stakes though. What would be interesting would be know what they plan to do with it. Do they plan to offer codeshare tickets for onward connections in Canada? Fwiw they still have an interline agreement with Air Canada regardless of alliance changes. It does seem like it's increasingly challenging to actually book tickets combining them though. They come up on AC's web site but bookings didn't go through.
The companies indicated at the time of the announcement that the interline agreement was just a first step and that a codeshare agreement is coming. The press release stated that the agreement would make 29 Nordic destinations available to WestJet customers: I'd be interested to see the full list. One of the cities mentioned was Copenhagen, but that destination is already available to WS customers via CDG: Air France flight 1850/WestJet flight 5065.
I expect SAS to keep its interline agreement with AC, after all AC interlines with dozens of non-Star Alliance airlines.
