The last tiem I flew on a two-class breakfast transcon flight (either direction), the fruit/cheese plate and cookies were offered. It has been a while, though, so things may have changed.

If you are thinking of switiching to an AFS flight (767-200) flight, be advsed that the First Class fare will be higher. If you go in Business Class, you will be giving-up 10 inches of legroom, assuming AA 179 is a 767-300 (which I think it is). If I were you, I would stick with AA 179.
