We went to Luxor. It was a very long day but absolutely worth it, a highlight of the trip. The concierge organized it perfectly.

Yes, the snorkeling right off the dock is just incredible. As good if not better than Bora Bora and the Maldives, and definitely better than Hawaii. I did not snorkel as the sun began to set because this is an area where there have been infrequent shark attacks.

To explain the snorkeling in more detail, it differs from Bora Bora, the Maldives, and Hawaij in that the reef is along a 30/40 foot wall. The visibility is close to perfect to the ocean floor, and you are swimming alongside the fish who live on and around the wall of coral, all the way to ocean floor.

I stayed in a newly built suite in the new section of the resort. The suites and new section are beautiful but after seeing the unrenovated rooms, in the Luna section, we would have slightly preferred this area. It is a close call, and I think they have done an excellent job of the new build. You would likely be happy in any of the sections, but with your family I’m guessing you might also prefer the Luna section, which is also closest to breakfast, the lobby, spa, and two good restaurants. The new section is immediately adjacent to an incredible gym and a gorgeous new restaurant. When we were there the spa needed a refresh but the treatments were so good, and the therapists so nice that it became one of our favorite FS spa experiences. Happy to answer any other questions. It brings back great memories. Before going we visited local museums which had Egyptian artifacts and studied as much as we could such that when we arrived the wonder was that much greater.
Thanks for this detail! Yes, I am thinking we would stick to the FS restaurants, especially with a young person in tow. I can see that Sharm is not a pretty or quiet area but the FS seems to wall itself off like a garden. If we decide to do it, I’ll likely PM with more questions.
