My husband and I love to travel - it is our passion, besides each other. We joined the Travelers Century Club (more than 100 countries) this year. Our last country to bring us in was Yemen! My husband travels quite a bit on business but is due to retire in a few years (he's 62 - passes for 52!). He has been a UAL 1K but now Prem Ex. We have accumulated almost a million miles in various accounts.
I am the accounts manager. Sometimes he goes crazy with the deals, esp credit cards. I don't even give them to him - just charge once and cancel. These companies are nuts but it's their loss. I am not desperate enough to eat Healthy Choice!
The big deal we are looking forward to is Marriott's trip on the Concorde to London. However, in general, we espouse the Erma Bombeck philosophy of travel: do the tough stuff while you are young (everything is relative!). We are focusing on places which are politically volatile and trying to get in during safe windows of opportunity. We went to Cambodia (free tix to Bangkok, then Thai to Cambodia). We are excited that Beirut and Iran are open and plan to go soon. We still have Peru to do before it is too late again. We missed Yugoslavia because it never occurred to us that it would shut down. Later...
We have been to all 7 continents, 50 states, and 6 oceans. Also both above the Arctic and below the Antarctic Circles. We particularly love the 3rd world and old ruins.
My husband is a marketing manager for Varian, selling medical imaging products. I am currently a community volunteer but was once the mayor of our city (small city..). Also a one time real estate broker and computer programmer. We have a 16 year old, well traveled daughter still at home and 3 8/9 grandchildren living with various adult children.
He who dies having seen the most of the earth wins.
