On the Aeromexico website is a new pop-up notice for foreign visitors. Basically you have to show proof of departure (outbound ticket or transfer). Mostly all countries have this requirement but seldom enforce it.

So now they are enforcing it. Mexican residents (permanent or temporary are exempt).
