Rebelling is too strong of a word for my position. Seriously reconsidering my credit cards strategy is a better way to put it.
The 3X on other travel is not very impactful for me. It's more that the combination of annual fee increase and more annoying coupon perks got me to have a reality check with how much value I actually get from these cards and how much effort I have to put into getting that value. And that reality check made me realize that it's probably not worth it any more.
The truth is, with how my travel and spending patterns have evolved - and how my enjoyment of the optimization hobby has eroded - the premium cards probably weren't worth it even before this change. But this large of a change is what it took to get me off my butt and seriously evaluate what I'm doing overall. If no change had been made, I probably would have cruised along paying the annual fee and not actually getting my money's worth for years to come.
