Experiences with KLM from US to Amsterdam

Need to fly with our dog to the Netherlands, and trying to avoid connecting flights. Best option for us would be to travel from Chicago, but the KLM site states that "Pets cannot travel in the hold of KLM flights with Boeing 787-9, Boeing 787-10, and Airbus A321neo aircraft", and it appears that Chicago is mainly served by the 787-10. I would prefer not to, but I could drive to Boston, for instance, where KLM normally uses the A330. I guess my question would be: if we decide to go from Boston, and if by any chance there is an equipment change to the 787, would they rebook us all on the next flight with the A330? I imagine so, but curious to hear if anyone here had similar experiences.
