On the topic of recycling. Plastic bottles can and should be recycled. All it takes is for them to be collected separately .
I think I recall this being done in European flights at some point in the past. There were two bags , one for cans, one for plastic bottles.
Easyjet have a bag for recycling.
The recycling of the bottles involves washing them , shredding them and then melting the plastic to make new bottles.
This is much more environmentally friendly than throwing them away with mixed waste.
