I'm sorry to hear about the sock hop part. At all airports I've travelled, I can put the shows on right there at the belt. I wear slip-on shoes, so I drop them on the ground and slide in.

I don't like it much, and I don't think the level to which they've taken this is adding to security. However, I don't think it's something to get worked up about, and I'd hardly call it tyrannical. I've heard all the arguments about "they start with this, then go further and further...". I'm just not buying it in this case. Just MHO, of course.
