I have found that Premium Plus is very comparable to domestic First, with seats that are of comparable width and may even have a bit more leg room. Better amenities such as the blanket and pillow, paddles for your feet (seems those over 6' are not fans) and calf lift. Personal item space is poor, however.
It is not up to the standards of Business First Barcalounger seating that was common on international flights decades ago.
If you are strong, healthy and young, there is no reason to pay 2.8X economy plus prices for this. However, if your budget allows and you are not strong, healthy and young then paying just over 40% of the cost of Polaris may make sense. Prices I found for EWR-AKL and EWR-SYD fell into this ratio of 2.4X Y and 0.44X Polaris. All Premium seating seems to have inflated faster than Y.
Mrs 8MiHi has let me know that 10+hour redeyes will not be taken in E+ or less. She was the one who pointed out to me that PP was less than half the price of Polaris.
Forty years ago, I wouldn’t have paid for PP (had it been available). Now that I’m in my 70’s, I simply won’t fly long haul in E. The only time I will accept PP on a long haul flight is when Business isn’t available. Life is too short to fly long haul in a 10 wide economy seat.
