That’s 2/3 of the PlusPoints I get in a year for a status that’s not that big of an improvement over Gold. At the old black market rate of ~$400/GPU, that’s $2,000. I wouldn’t recommend anybody do an extra $2,000 in travel spending solely to reach Platinum; if anything, this seems worse, as at least if you buy a lot of extra flights you get to take extra trips.
