When there’s an unplanned overnight delay, SOP is for the bags to continue on to their final destination. If you want your bag to be pulled, you have to ask the baggage staff at the hub airport — IAH, in this case — who will likely give you an estimate of multiple hours for your bag to arrive on the belt. (Or, they’ll refuse entirely — something I witnessed personally at IAH once).
Really is amazing how United (and I assume other airlines) completely suck with checked baggage, especially when they charge so much for them.
Irrops is bad enough without having to deal with hours of wait and/or hostility when trying to get your bag back from them.
