The Centurion lounge denied entry until 3 hours before the flight time, but the Chase Sapphire Reserve lounge allowed entry.
The Pier F closed at 1:30AM (dining closes earlier), at which point I wandered the terminal for 1.5 hours. Sky Garden and Sky Bridge were both underwhelming but got some steps in.
There are now two 24hr Plaza Premium Lounges. The one at Gate 1 is marginally nicer than the one at Gate 60 but they’re both fairly dismal. They told me that my Priority Pass allowed a maximum stay of 2 hours. To be honest it was quite amusing how much trouble they’d gone to in order to make the lounge as unpleasant as possible at night.
2 hours got me to 5AM at which point the Cathay lounges were about to reopen and I was sick of Bossa Nova and uncomfortable armchairs by that point, so that was fine. Day rooms were available so I napped for an hour or so. Then had some breakfast and boarded my long haul flight.
To be honest it all worked out absolutely fine and I would be just as happy on an 08:00 flight to London over the traditional 00:30 flight now. Being kicked out of the CX lounges for 4 hours wasn’t the end of the world, the time passed quickly.
Would have been a very different story if I had really needed to sleep from midnight to 8am - like if I had a shorthaul connection. I don’t think that’s possible and in that situation you'd be mad not to pay for a hotel.
Just wondering are you arriving on CX F?
Because I am going to have an overnight HKG transit from CX F to CX J, and not sure if the 00:00 rule applies to CX-CX transit as well or it only applies to transit between oneworld members.
