That's how it seems to work for the biggest acts - You bid for seats in a specific class, and later find out whether you "won," and only discover exactly which seats you're getting when you pay, and then wait to pick up the tickets, and then pay a small handling fee when you collect paper tickets at the convenience store - in addition to the handling fees you already paid to the promoter. A very disjointed experience. At some point in that process, you sign up to some ticketing service which proceeds to send you a bunch of spam that you can't ignore because you're waiting for the notification about picking up the tickets.
I had to get rid of one ticket last year, and sold it to a guy who was standing outside the venue with a sign, asking someone to sell him a ticket. I think that might be how I procure tickets in the future - less hassle.
A decade or so ago, I would get good deals on last-minute tix via Yahoo Auctions. Only downside was they were usually single seats.
They seem to have disappeared though.
