Many expensive cruises tend to have varying offers when booking through a TA. So the 3x loss can be a big deal. For some of us who like to book frequent, cheap ones, without a lot of markup, those TA offers generally aren't going to outpace 8x UR.
The extra 5x if paid through the portal for something like that can really be a huge difference. The above 36k example, they would get 288,000 points instead of 108,000. Thats a huge amount of extra return

Honestly it depends on what benefits you would use, but most of the benefits over the Preferred card appear to be gone to me. You are more likely to find even more benefit in transfers than before
