Almost every airport I've been to you shoot right out into public after customs..
Bah - I should just go get a cheap hotel room for a few hours.

I only went outbound from LIM, so I don't know about arrival customs.
Based on my experience at LIM:
1) The international terminal is much nicer than the "non-secure" ticketing/public area. But this is true at many airports.
2) The construction in the non-secure area may be finished - all I know is that when I was there, it was impossible to sleep with them banging and hammering on metal all night. AA opened their ticket counter later in the morning, so I was stuck outside the terminal all night. Not a pleasant experience.
3) If I were planning to sleep for a night in LIM, I would much prefer to do it at a hotel if I had time, but if not, then the international terminal would suffice. Keep in mind that the terminal entrance/customs may be closed in the middle of the night, so if you leave you may not be able to reenter until morning.
Again, this is all based on my experience at LIM last year, so hopefully someone who has gone through there more recently can chip in some advice.
