Late domestic with Qantas as the operating carrier and failure of airport special assistance suggests to me that the chances of compensation are slim to zero. It's possibly worth a punt, but I wouldn't be spending the money right now. Is it one connecting ticket all the way through to final destination, and have you updated the special assistance request to meet the Etihad flight?
