While I understand wanting to get the most enjoyment at of the entire experience, I don't know that there is any lounge at LHR that is worth getting there extremely early. So while you can show up as early as opening time, I would say the 3 hour recommendation is a good one.
Agreed, especially as they've not flown business class before so they'll also enjoy being in CW.
The only reason for being early would be to have a shower in the lounge if the trip to LHR had been a long one.
