I think you might be quoting the three-hour limit — passes can only be use for entry three hours prior to departure, except during a connection.
Good news / bad news here. The good news is that you can use a pass during a connection. The bad news is that the clubs at the hubs are often so full that they refuse entry to guests with passes. This happens frequently enough that they have a ready-made sign for it. So there’s a very realistic chance that you’ll get to the club with your pass and not be able to enter it anyway.
