Original booking is all AA metal booked with AAdvantage miles and next flight to LHR would be BA. I see that there is an earlier positioning flight with a more generous 2 hour layover also on AA which I would gladly revenue for. Should I call and ask for repositioning before ticketing or ticket first and change later? Would appreciate any suggestions
Is the 70k all one award from XXX-LHR? If so then AA isn't just going to move you to an earlier flight for free, doesn't matter whether you call now or later.
Unfortunately if you've already put the flights on hold then your award is more or less "booked" in terms of changes. AA doesn't allow changes on AA-only award tickets. So if you want to move to an earlier connection, you can cancel what you've got then rebook the same flights (but with the earlier connection) at whatever the going rate is.
What is your itinerary and where is the 35 min connection?
