I misconnected at MAD last year. Arriving MAD at 1AM and missed the midnight bank of flights to South America; no staff in sight so booked a hotel room myself. Was rebooked for an IB flight the next day. Hotel and Bolt taxi (EUR 250) was reimbursed by IB afterwards without fuss.
If there is no staff on the arrivals level - go out, then go one floor up to departures and there at least one of the two IB customer care positions should be open.
