I think the point the poster is making is that Alaska could (and does) have customers in the countries that it blocks. Not everyone has or is knowledgeable enough to have a VPN, and not being able to access your reservation is frustrating at best. It’s another example of AS not being ready for the big leagues - UA, AA, DL don’t do this.
Flyertalk is a bit different, since it’s not selling services to customers in the countries that it blocks.
