Is this flight going to be how I think it will be? Any options?
I've flown quite a few Avianca flights booked with UA miles. I've spent time talking to UA and Avianca, hours on the phone with AV's "support". No one knows how to assign a seat for a AV award ticket booked with Mileageplus. However, I've been able to choose a seat at check in every time, so 24 hours before departure.
Two years after the above, I'm encountering the same problem. Booked SFO-SAL-PTY using UA miles in Y. First leg on AV (TACA), 2nd leg on Copa.
No problem with seat assignment on 2nd COPA leg. Same problem as above on first AV leg. Website showed a message box directing me to call their contact center. I talked to 3 of their agents and got transferred to Lifemiles and then transferred back to reservations.
Last agent said I have to call them and get quotes on the cost to assign various seats and pay over the phone. Otherwise, within 24 hours of flight departure, I will be randomly assigned a seat for free, with no ability to select a seat on my own for free during OCLI. FWIW, I'm UA*G.
Is that true?
