Hi All,
I was thinking about how to use the miles pool system to game my way into purchasing NH J tix from Tokyo to EWR. I set up a miles pool for myself and had family members B and C contribute all their miles to it. C left the pool and I redeemed miles in the pool for Y tix on UA from NRT-EWR as a placeholder/last resort. I am hoping that some NH J tix pop up T-14 so that I can cancel my UA Y tix for no fee and to immediately redeposit points into the pool. However, given the time sensitive nature of *A J award availability on UA, I was thinking about dissolving the pool now, months in advance of when I would cancel the UA Y tix I booked via the pooled miles. Does anyone know what would happen to those miles if I dissolved the pool then canceled the award tix afterwards?
I only want to do this because I want to pool all the miles from B and C into my account and then book *A partner flights using my newly acquired "personal" miles. However, I don't want to cancel my redeemed Y tix now just in case no J availability pops up on NH in the 2 weeks leading up to departure. Additionally, I don't want to have to wait 24+ hours after canceling my Y award tix for the miles to get transferred back to the pool, dissolve the pool, and have the miles transfer back to A's account after B leaves the pool. I am hoping that miles from the canceled miles pool award ticket just go back to the ticket booker (me) if there is no pool for the miles to redeposit back to.
Sorry for the long post and thank you very much for any advice and insight!
