Just 8 legs, leaving mid June, coming back mid September. Total 170k miles and $450 in taxes and fees. Booking flights separately would be cheaper than paying the extra taxes/fees to fly around SE Asia and Europe.
Interestingly, they quoted me an additional $1000 in taxes/fees if I just added a single 2h business class Turkish Airlines flight between IST and ZAG. They also quoted me an additional $800 in taxes and fees if I added an economy leg from IAD-LAX on UA.
Good luck to everyone trying to book before the deadline!
Called this morning. I added up on ITA and on ANA's r/t search and got well under $1000, but was quoted ~$1300. Put it on hold, did some more research, found this post, called back. With the second agent on the phone, I took out our KRK-IST TK and LAX-SEA UA and it didn't make a meaningful difference in the taxes. So I went ahead and paid ~$1250 per in taxes for:
UA ORD-FRA J
LH FRA-WAW Y
TK KRK-IST J
TG IST-BKK J
TG BKK-ICN J
OZ ICN-LAX Y
UA LAX-SEA Y
Set an alert on seats.aero for OZ ICN-LAX - with 66 J seats on each A380, 2x/day, and 3 or 4 days to play with in early September, I think I can get that leg in J - as opposed to being locked in to one 777 with 28 J seats per day to SEA. We're positioning to ORD on AS or WN because all NH could have booked was a red eye in Y.
I wanted BR for TPAC and to do Taiwan instead of Korea, but with that June 24 deadline bearing down...
Agent told me the phone waits were running around 2.5 hours with 144 in the queue as of when I was talking to her...
