I used to fly PE on AF and I could often upgrade to Business either via an email offer or at the gate. If they don’t make an announcement, make sure to ask at the gate anyway. It’s well worth it in my opinion.

The only thing to consider is load. It seems that planes are not as full as they were a few months ago. Some people might prefer a whole row of Y rather than upgrade to a full PE cabin.
