PS TPE city doesn't provide any status benefits there - don't have a J counter nor provide those priority baggage stickers - so at TPE city you're not missing out on anything
Are you doing just TPE-HKG/NRT/NGO/KIX or do you have a connecting flight? Are you checking bags? In the past year or so, TPECX airport counters are very reluctant to check bags if your ex-TPE flight's incoming flight has not departed from HKG, NRT, NGO, or KIX when you have a connecting flight. They would rather make sure your ex-TPE flight is not significantly delayed before checking your bag, or else they will try to reaccommodate you on another flight first. The agent has some discretion, and I suppose the weather plays a role, too. Of course, if you check in at Taipei Station, it is unmanned so you can check your bag as long as you meet the criteria set forth at
