Can I assume this information is true, and the fact that I'm flying Virgin (albeit in economy) won't get me in?
If this is case, I'm guessing my best option is to head to the Centurion Lounge? PP lists other lounges at Terminal 4. Are any of them worthwhile in case the Centurion is mobbed?
Unless you are flying on the morning Virgin flight, the Centurion lounge will be mobbed. But it may be worth a try nonetheless.
The other decent option would be the Chase Sapphire lounge next door. Non-Chase Priority Pass memberships, including the Amex Platinum membership, get you one free visit per year across all Chase lounge locations (no guests). It is also likely to be mobbed, however.
If you have Delta Gold Medallion or higher status, in theory you would be entitled to Virgin Clubhouse (or Delta Sky Club) access by virtue of SkyTeam lounge access rules.
