With Avis and every other rental-car company, experiences can vary widely from one location to the next. Hard to generalize about any one particular brand. I regularly rent from Avis at my small airport here in Upstate New York, and have generally been satisfied with the experience.

Do you qualify for any special rates (like AARP, Costco, etc.) which might qualify you for an even lower rate? Also, note that Avis coupon MUWA010 -- unless blacked out for your rental period -- will knock $15 off of a rental rate of $175 or more.

Avis' sister company, Budget, sometimes offers lower rates than Avis for the same rental.
