Same experience here. I just checked out of the Mercure Singapore On Stevens hotel on a booking that was fully non-refundable ("The amount due is not refundable even if the booking is cancelled or modified").
Confirmation email says nothing is left to be paid at the hotel - however my card was never automatically charged. I made the payment only when I checked out of the hotel.
