We plan to book LYS-LHR-OSL with Avios in a few days for early June next year. We have already booked to fly LHR-LYS and will then travel by train from Lyon to Nimes to visit our Son, who is living there. We would like to put a bag in a luggage storage facility so then only take one bag on the trains in France. It appears that at LYS we can only store a bag for one day and must have a boarding pass showing a departure in the next 24 hours. Looking at Lyon Part-Dieu station it appears that they only have lockers.
I see that there are luggage storage facilities at Heathrow so if we left a bag at LHR T5 before our flight to LYS we could pick it up when we return to LHR before flyng to OSL. The flights we are looking at will be on a Wednesday:
BA357 Dep LYS 13:35 Arr LHR 14:25
BA784 Dep LHR 20:15 Arr OSL 23:25
If we book these flights on one ticket, which I would prefer to do in case of delays with the first flight, when we check in at LYS can we ask to have our bag only checked through to LHR and not OSL? If so we could then collect our bag on arrival at LHR, pick up the other bag from luggage storage and then check in both bags to OSL. I think that would be easier than having one bag checked through to OSL from LYS and then try to check in the extra bag at LHR for OSL.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
Adding a bag to your allowance at LHR, so long as it's within your overall baggage limit won't be a problem at all. Simply check one bag in at Lyon to go LYS-LHR-OSL and check the next bag in at LHR. I've done it before.
