Avis/Budget seems to be doing this more frequently now. Would not be surprised if they had internal directive to "find" more damage.

I recommend filming the car at pick-up and drop-off, and keep the files for at least 18 months. That's the longest time delay I've seen posted here for a damage claim.

I recommend video because you may catch things and you wouldn't in a photo, like a small windshield crack only visible at a certain angle as you walk by.
Also more legit when it's a continuous video showing the entire pick-up area, they know you didn't take a random photo from somewhere else or another time.
