Pricing is all over the map. Today I see some midweek $49 LAX-SFO WGA+ fares with Basic blocked from purchase on those flights. LAX-OAK is double the price with a $30 WGA+ differential.
In general, the price differentials between days of the week and between co-terminal cities are greater than I can recall seeing.
I infer that Southwest is thrashing, searching the pricing space for some more profitable corners. Which don't exist, especially now that the brand has been destroyed.
Basic fares on LAX-SFO start at $46 and WGA+ start at $49. Last Friday, all differentials on this route were $30 matching AS/DL/UA/AA differentials on LAX-SFO. Pretty clearly, they aren't getting the buy-up they expected on competitive routes. Routes like LAX-OAK where they don't have legacy competition look to have largely kept their $30 - $40 differentials that they started loading back in May.
They were matching AA/UA/DL fare differentials of $35 on LAX-DEN last week (as shown below). But those are now down to $20.
