Tuesday 10th June

  • Sadly this is the last full day in Japan As it was raining heavy I couldn't go to the planned Edo Open Air Museum and my backup of the Railway Museum is closed on Tuesday. So I decided to have a late breakfast and visit the National Museum of Nature and Science instead. I was very skeptical of visiting this museum as nature and science museums are the same the world over.
  • I tried the included breakfast at Nouvelle Epoque which was fantastic. It's great that the club rate includes breakast at any of the hotel's dining venues (buffet, Japanese, French and Club Lounge).
  • I got to the museum at 10:30 and it took around 2 hours to see the Japanese wing. My fears where liad to rest at this was very Japan focused, although most of the exhibit desfriptions where in Japanese. There is a free website where you can get a text-based tour in English which I did (scan the QR code at the entrance), or you can get an audio guide (I did not have time for that). Unfortuntely the place was full of schoolkids so I cound't take many photos. I did see a T-rex and triceratops though.
  • I had a break for lunch at the museum's restaurant. I got there and printed off a queue ticket from the machine at 12:51 and there was a bit of a wait, I was only seated at 13:10. Annoyingly I was the only foreigner in the waiting area and the numbers where called out in Japanese so I couldn't work out when my number was called. It's strange such a major museum can't adequately cater for non-Japanese speakers. Anyway, the curry and dessert were of good quality, much better then any UK museum.
  • Afterwards I visited the Global wing which took about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The highlight was the tree of life, which I think London's Natural History Museum should blatantly copy!
  • As it was still raining, I got a hojicha latte from Starbucks (I wish they did this flavour in the UK) and made plans for my next move. I wanted to go to a train spotting spot but dicided not to because of the bad weather and instead went to a Pokemon card store. After a quick browse, I bought 3 original cards ... a Pikachu, Squirtle and Charmander (they brought back the nostalgia of my 1st Pokemon cards and games from school).
  • I then went to the nearby Don Quijote and found some Kitcats and sweets to bring back for gifts.
  • Then I made my way to the Shin-Marunouchi Building Garden Terrace to get some photos of Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace. After looking round for some dinner, I stumbled upon a Thai restaurant in the building in which a had a delicious chicken red curry.
  • I then went looking for dessert, and after wandering aimlessly around Tokyo station, I found a French canele shop and bought a tea and green tea canele.
  • Then I made my way back to the hotel via Atago Jinja, a quiet and peaceful shrine where I could sit and eat my items. I found a creepy place with wierd vending machines on the way back to my hotel!
  • Lastly, I went to the hotel's Baron's Bar (only avaible to those staying in the Heritage Wing) for a nightcap.
  • I will try and wrap up with the flight back and post-trip thoughts next.
