Hello fellow travellers!
Development is moving on at speed! Today we have a couple of interesting announcements:
1 - The next stage of rebuilding our User Interface starts next week! I know that there are areas such as usage on laptops/tablets, inconsistency in the look and feel, and a general 'something missing' in the quality of the user experience we desperately desire - we really want a product that is lovely to use. It's a function of 'getting something going' and adapting our use cases, features and functionality as we go along, and hear from our users what works and what doesn't. We now have a very clearer vision. Watch this space - I cannot wait to see how this next big piece of work shapes out!!! We will try and give an update next week on timescales.
2 - We have built an alerting engine which will offer additional capabilities to Gold subscribers. It's early days but we'd *really* like some people who want to provide some feedback, and who are flying this month or next month, to join our Gold beta program. It's not as open as the original beta was, mainly because there are costs to us in this functionality, and we really need people who are going to use it and feedback to us. To that end, if you want to join, drop me a PM. We'll provide free Gold access until the end of July (and maybe longer - depends how it all goes!). To give you a taste, these are the initial alerts we will provide:
- Seatmap availability - I want 1A/an aisle/a window/an exit row, let me know if any open up
- Seatmap changes - I am in 1A but the seatmap shows it is free now (someone seat shifted you! The seat shifters on BA are particularly good at this at times!!)
- Seatmap layout changes - the configuration changed - maybe an aircraft change or the curtain moved - perhaps a better seat is available - we will tell you if the aircraft type has changed or the curtain moved
- Seatmap empty seat next to me - Im in 1A, is 1B still empty?
- Live schedules - my flight is delayed a little (<30 mins) - it's good to know - longer in the lounge if it's a departure delay. Fix a connection if it's an arrival delay.
- Live schedule - my flight is delayed (30-180 mins) - now we really are in disruption territory - we'll show you, but we also want to tell you about at risk connections and maybe even suggest the best layover hotel, along with price and availability if you are stuck at an airport overnight (The answer at JFK is the TWA hotel - just my opinion!!!)
- Live schedule - my flight is very delayed >180 mins - more of the above - we may add advice on how you can claim compensation (note - we do NOT want to make money out of this - this is just information for you - we wil give you the flight data)
- Live schedule - my flight is cancelled - links to alternates
- Live schedule - schedule change for my flight - this happens a lot and the airlines do not always tell you. We hope to show you in context and have an easy button for 'what are the alternatives' for when you ask the airline to change the flight
- Live schedule - flight diverted - not much we can do except let you know your flight to GIB is ending up in AGP !!
Alerting will be in the app UI and some will be by email. We will probably add WhatsApp/SMS if people value it (feedback please!!!). We are open to ideas for more alerting or to display data to meet your needs - if you have ideas, let us know. We have built flyercopilot such that we *can* join the dots up and we want to offer things that are different if we can, and if our users want them.
We care passionately about our users - those of you who have reached out will know we always try and respond, and we always try and fix the things *you* tell us about. Please keep the feedback coming - it helps is build a better product for you.
keep trying the app and feeding back!!
Matthew
