They told everyone to keep everything in bags and shoes on. Didn't have to show ID. I seem to recall similar more relaxed security after international arrivals in the US elsewhere (at similar checkpoints which can only be accessed from international arrivals), but I do it rarely enough that I'm not sure. (I almost always clear US customs at either Canadian pre-clearance or a land border.)
