And sorry, but 'hours and hours of manual work' for assigning rooms? Seriously? You mean how they just assign you an almost random room at check in? Hotels rarely pre-screen arrivals and pre-assign rooms.
I can see corporate taking this function out of hotel front desk hands and just having some automated button somebody presses or script that runs in the background and just throws rooms out there... and of course won't take into account early check in or late check out or other requests. Clusterf*ck in the making
If you have not seen pre-assigned rooms then you have not paid enough attention.
Anytime your room type changed the night or morning before your check in, someone has pre-assigned you to a room. That’s largely a manual process that’s labor intensive. Sure, a cookie cutter new construction will be much simpler but hotels that have a lot of different room types or luxury hotels where clients have specific requests will be much more time consuming.
