And yes it is bs. On every other major SA airline you can fly standby for free as a top tier flyer. So sorry I had not looked up Thai given the other 6 or 7 dont give you any issue. Given flights in Asia are $200 day of I simply wont buy early again. Prblem solved. Yes it's a crappy decision by an airline to have different rules than all of its major partners (Who are much larger). Any reasonable person would expect the same.

Thanks, my day has gone well. Just trying to determine if the commentary is accurate or not

For the other readers of this thread: I can confirm that the bold text in the statement above that "every other major airline... " is simply wrong - perhaps this is a US or European thing? Air New Zealand, for example, will not allow standby - even for its own Elite tier (above *G) unless buying a flexible fare.
