I would have thought that the first requirement for an enroute stopover would be that the partner airline sells tickets between the end points (i.e. LAX - HKG in your first example). I understood that JAL sold trans-pacific routed tickets between the USA and India, hence the ability to purchase AS award flights between U.S. gateways and Delhi on JAL. Do you know whether JAL markets trans-Pacific routed tickets between L.A. and Europe?
