You can get a C1 AU card for $125 and it's cheaper than alternatives.
yup. For us, just not worth the price of admission with Cap1 after this change.
Family of 4. Wife is the main holder of the VentureX, I’m the AU. I’ve got Amex Plat and CSR - both just me (wife has a companion Amex plat - but I stopped paying for the full one when they raised the prices - just wasn’t worth it + PP has been better for her than Centurion). We use the PP membership more than anything, but do connect via DEN a couple of times a year, where the Cap1 lounge to be fair, is really nice. Its our favorite. don’t know if we’ve just been lucky, but never had a wait.
for a couple of times a year, the price to keep this would be $395 main AF + 125*3 = $770. Just not worth it, even with the credits/points (would be cheaper, probably, in the end with 2 primary cards (2 sets of credits) with the kids as AUs, but not even sure they could get their own PP memberships (they are 10 and 7). Cap1 just does not make sense.
Much more sense right now (at least at the moment - who knows where rumoured changes go) to drop the Cap1 completely, make wife a CSR AU. That takes a $395 annual fee off the table, replaces it with a $75 AU, and we get PP access with guests (ie, kids) + AC lounge access (useful since we are based in SFO and and are through YYZ usually 2-4 times/year). Yes, we lose the Cap1 lounge access (and honestly, lounge access in DEN completely), which is a bummer for sure, but not worth the cost of entry anymore.
