It was the first time I had received slippers and they were useful on the flight. I particularly enjoyed the flight Geneva to Manchester since I was the only one in Cloud 9!
I flew Ethiopian during April and early May and both amenity kits and slippers were provided, so I think you'll be fine.
On four flights I managed to score all three amenity kit colours - yellow, red and green. What's fun is that all the contents are also the colour of the kit itself, right down to the pen. They're pretty cool all round really, so I think you'll be fine.
