I'm not totally sure that's how companion fares work. It's totally possible I just don't understand how companion fares work in the back end, but I don't think a companion that's entitled to free bags will have those extend to the original booker - or anyone they booked with them. I assumed that the 'additional passengers' would be anyone with the same confirmation number. I'd be somewhat surprised if they a) have the ability to or b) have the desire to make this happen.
