Overall, I liked the Andaz Doha and I think it has potential - though, it’s obvious there are still kinks to be ironed out. Here are my impressions and photos:
Note: I got the impression that only some floors are open - just a hunch based on the floors I saw the elevator landed at.
Another Note: I was not informed of any lounge offering or any access to the above-mentioned VIP Lounge. As I don’t expect a lounge for Globalists at Andaz properties, I didn’t ask.
Pros:
- Upgraded before arrival to an Andaz Suite
- Design is nice in the suite, and there are lots of pieces of art
- Bed was comfortable - medium mattress with slightly plush top, covers had okay plushness for climate, pillows were plush if a tad small
- Shower pressure was good - I preferred the wand
- Welcome gift was fun with lots of good desserts - I really enjoyed the shortbreads with chocolate mousse
- Proactively given 4 PM checkout
- The front desk staff along with Guest Relations and Director of Operations were very friendly and good conversationalists
Neutral:
- The light switches are a tad confusing and you have to use them to reset the lights as they turn off after you leave
- Breakfast is in 3rd floor Hawker restaurant now and could be improved - they lost my initial cappuccino order, manakish on buffet was not good, omelet had toppings that were not evenly distributed and needed more flavor, French toast had absolutely caramel and ice cream but the toast itself was just okay
- Couch seemed more design-oriented than comfort-oriented
Cons:
- The AC in the bedroom seemed to have some sort of aggravating vibration
I would come back - I think the issues can be fixed.
