I have often searched for tickets 10+ times within a 24h frame due to buggy website, multiple routes option, and a tired brain, and I never saw a price bump. I did see temporary price bumps, though, when bookings failed before the fare would go back to inventory.

Between the secret algorithm sauce, IT bugs, and other variables, it's hard to tell what caused what you experienced.
Fair enough. It could just be complete coincidence. As a side note, I have experienced what you said with getting past the passenger information with KL since for some reason my app has a bug where it doesn’t show a box to input credit card number (Really strange and I keep forgetting that it only works on laptop).

Every time this has happened (and the last availability has been pulled) I call KL and ask them to search the flight and my name etc. and they pull up a PNR connected to the incomplete booking and then I can make the payment over the phone. It is worth bearing in mind in case you ever experience this and can’t risk waiting for the availability to (hopefully) be restored. So it seems every time this happens a PNR has been created in their system but you just can’t see it.
