I tried upgrading a ticket recently for a friend who was travelling with me - and it wouldn't work. Upon calling the TK call centre, they asserted that the name of the account holder must match the ticket for upgrades.
two months ago I upgraded a ticket for my mother - I was logged in with my acccount and opened her reservation. from there I processed the upgrade. maybe it worked because we have the same family name. however I have also upgraded a ticket for my nephew (other name) last year. same method. no issues.
