QF may prefer the child to have ID. However given the thousands of children that would have flown on "D" flights. I am sure that QF/border force have some process in place, otherwise we would see a very large note/warning on the site.
And the situation the children require a passport (there a no other photo ID options for say a 12 year old) and adults do not.
