The general rule is PNR's cannot be combined, so I assume it applies in this case. You can link the PNR's, but I assume the issue is requesting an e up in advance (vs at the airport) for your partner. If you haven't used your nominee that would also be an option.

And given can't combine PNR's, I assume I won't be able to make any changes? Or calling AE I could, but it would be as 2x separate bookings?
Seems like a flaw in the system.
