I'm pretty sure that after BKK-HKG, TSA will require the plane be emptied and all passengers rescreened. This is how it works in NRT... XXX-NRT onward to the US empties directly to security for rescreening; USA-NRT for onward international connections empties directly into the terminal and rescreening is not required.
In addition, I expect there will be random secondary security checks at HKG back to LAX/SFO as has been the case for a long time.
