Not happy about this either as an AU on my wife's Venture X. I could in theory open my own and zero out the AF as she does by booking one flight through C1's portal a year, but that is more credit-card maintenance for me and yet another reason for my wife to roll her eyes at my travel-optimization obsessions. And it doesn't solve the problem of our 14yo not being included as a guest and also not ready to get a credit card. (Whether C1 or any other bank would issue one anyway to our income-deprived smaller human is another matter.)
